How Colombia determines residency

Colombia treats you as a tax resident if you are present in the country โ€” continuously or not, counting both entry and exit days โ€” for 183 days within any 365-day period. When that 365-day period spans two calendar years, you are treated as resident in the second year.

Residents are taxed on worldwide income (Colombia is not a territorial system). Additional nationality-based tests apply only to Colombian nationals: a resident spouse or minor children, 50% or more of income being Colombian-sourced, or 50% or more of assets held in or managed from Colombia.
